Garton Top Finisher For Cougars at Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C. – College of Charleston senior Josefine Garton (Linkoping, Sweden) was the Cougars' top finisher after carding a three-round score of 76-70-73—219 (+3) at the 2017 Pinehurst Challenge held at the Pinehurst Resort's No. 1 course.
She birdied the 2nd, 7th and 18th to shoot 1-over in the final round and tied for 30th in the 100-player field. Garton ended the tournament among the statistical leaders in par-3 scoring (3.00) and eagles made (1).
Sophomore Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.), who shot a career-low 68 in the first round, tied for 47th (+5).
After a one-hour rain delay to start the day off, play resumed for all 19 teams and the average score on Tuesday was 75.13 – the highest of the three rounds. The Cougars shot a three-round score of 298-293-306—897 (+18) to finish 15th.
East Carolina claimed its second-straight team title shooting a three-round score of 847 (-17), while Coastal Carolina was runner-up (-9). Valentina Giraldo of Jacksonville State (-8) claimed individual medalist honors with a one-stroke victory over runner-up Malene Krolboll Hansen of Coastal Carolina (-7).
The Cougars will close out their fall season at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Oct. 22-24 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Turtle Point course on Kiawah Island, S.C.
