KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – In just her second career start, freshman Clarissa von Stosch (Kassel, Germany) was the College of Charleston women's golf team's top finisher at the three-day Palmetto Intercollegiate held at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's par-72 Turtle Point course.

She birdied three holes on the final nine to finish the tournament with rounds of 77, 73 and 73. Von Stosch was just one stroke outside of the Top 10 in a field comprised of four Top 100-ranked players. She tied for 12th with a three-round score of 223 (+7).

"Clarissa played extremely well," said CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell on his freshman, who was the runner-up at the 2015 German Girls Championship. "I'm very proud of her. She is definitely coming into her own."

Sophomore teammate Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.) tied for 18th (+9) – also ahead of three Top 100-ranked players in the field. She has now turned in two Top-20 finishes on the season.

As a team, the Cougars tied for 10th (+45) despite carding one of the better rounds with a 297 on the final day. Course conditions were much improved due to weather and CofC got an even-par round from freshman Olivia Hamilton (Oakenshaw, England), von Stosch's +1 round and Huskey and sophomore Anna-Theresa Rottluff (Dusseldorf, Germany) shooting +4.

"It was kind of a strange day," Futrell said. "We actually played well and had one of the better rounds, but the teams behind us played better and the teams in front of us played worst. Our position dropped when we were probably one of the better teams out on the golf course today. Sometimes, that's how it works."

Ole Miss claimed the team title with a three-round score of 883 (+19) followed by runner-up Kennesaw State (+27) and third-place and No. 48-ranked Campbell (+29). Diane Lim of Ole Miss (-3) was the individual medalist finishing one stroke better than runner-up Mikayla Fitzpatrick of Xavier (-2).

"There were a lot of positives to come out of the day and positives out of the tournament," Futrell said. "This was a very good field. In my opinion, we finished a very-competitive 10th and had a chance to really compete this week which is a good thing moving forward for us."

The Cougars conclude fall tournament play and will return to action in the spring at the UCF Challenge on Feb. 4-6, 2018, at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
