CHARLESTON, S.C. – Former College of Charleston All-American and 2017 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Golfer of the Year William Rainey (2013-17) made it through the first stage of the Web.com Tour Qualifying School last week in Kannapolis, N.C.
The 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship Individual Finalist shot rounds of 69, 67, 69 and 69 tying for 12th (-10) at The Club at Irish Creek. Rainey advances to the next stage of Q-School to be held at the end of the month.
He looks to join the professional ranks along with former CofC teammate and 2015 CAA individual champion John Jonas (2013-16), who is currently playing on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada.
Each year, several worthy players take their shot at the Web.com Tour by advancing through pre-qualifying, First Stage and Second Stage at various sites across the country. The Final Stage will be held this year at Whirlwind Golf Club (Devils Claw and The Cattail) in Chandler, Ariz.
Players who advance to Final Stage are assured a Web.com Tour card for the following season and the Top 45 finishers (and ties) at Final Stage are assured a healthy number of starts in the first part of the 2018 Web.com Tour season.
