CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's golf team gears up for its second to last fall tournament with the CSU East Bay Deli Classic up ahead on Oct. 29-31 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Turtle Point course on Kiawah Island, S.C.
The 15-team tournament field includes host Charleston Southern, CofC, Coastal Carolina, Chattanooga, Francis Marion, Jacksonville State, High Point, Memphis, Presbyterian, Rutgers, Stetson, Tennessee, USC Upstate, Western Carolina and Winthrop.
The par-72 course will play at 6,911 yards. Last year, the Cougars placed third overall behind defending tournament champion Tennessee and Augusta.
"We are ready to get back into action," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We will have a busy week to end the fall. We will play at Turtle Point on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and then we will host on Friday and Saturday at Stono Ferry. This would be a great time to get our putters hot."
This weekend, the Cougars will start sophomore Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.), sophomore Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.), freshman Raphael Geissler (Karlsruhe, Germany), sophomore Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.), sophomore Christian Baliker (Simpsonville, S.C.) and sophomore Jake Budde (Austin, Texas).
A year ago, Sowell finished third in the 118-player tournament field with a 3-under par 213 (71, 72 and 70).
"We have really focused on course management and trying to eliminate the big numbers," McEntire said. "That worked well for us in Nashville and it is time for it all to come together this week on Kiawah and at Stono Ferry."
The first and second rounds on Sunday and Monday will be tee times off the No. 1 beginning at 8 a.m. (ET), while Tuesday's final round will be a 9 a.m. (ET) shotgun start. Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com
