Cougars Ink Four For 2018 Season

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Claire Campbell (Raleigh, N.C.), Sylvia Duggan (Charlotte, N.C.), Amani Dunston (Agoura, Calif.), and Molly Russell (Conroe, Texas) have signed to attend the College of Charleston and play volleyball in the fall of 2018, announced head coach Jason Kepner on Wednesday.
"This is a great day for Charleston volleyball," Kepner said. "We are fortunate to add four great players, students, and teammates. This group adds depth to every position on the court and will have a big impact in our gym. We are very excited to welcome them to the Cougar family."
Campbell joins the Cougars from Athens Drive High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she was named the 2017 Tri 6 Conference Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1 middle blocker/opposite totaled 193 kills (2.6 per set) and 193 blocks (2.6 per set) this season to earn Athens Drive Varsity MVP honors. Campbell is also an accomplished student as a four-time Academic All-Conference selection.
Duggan comes to The College from Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte, North Carolina as a 2017 AVCA Under Armour All-America Watchlist honoree. A two-time SoMeck8 All-Conference selection, Duggan finished the 2017 season with 299 kills (3.9 per set) and 252 digs (3.3 per set). The 5-foot-10 outside hitter was named to the Best of the Carolinas Invitational All-Tournament Team this season, and earned the Most Kills Award at Ardrey Kell in 2016.
Dunston is a two-time All-Marmonte League selection from Agoura High School in Agoura, California, where she also earned a spot on the Ventura County Star All-County Team in 2016. The 5-foot-6 setter/defensive specialist is a three-time recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award in addition to a back-to-back selections as the Agoura HS Most Outstanding Player. Dunston is also an accomplished beach player with a sixth-place finish (out of 470 clubs) at the 2017 BVCA National Championship with Valley Girls Beach Volleyball Club.
Russell joins the Cougars as a 2017 AVCA Under Armour All-America Watchlist honoree from Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, Texas, where she led the team to a 48-1 overall record and a No. 1 national ranking in 2016. The 6-foot-1 middle blocker totaled 423 kills (3.1 per set) and 145 blocks (1.1 per set) that season while hitting .389 to earn both TAVC and TGCA All-State honors. Russell led the state of Texas with a .411 hitting percentage in 2015, and led Oak Ridge to back-to-back Texas 6A Final Four appearances in 2015 and 2016.
