CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball (9-17, 6-9) very nearly came all the way back to wipe out an 18-point deficit on Sunday, but James Madison (20-6, 13-2) managed to hold tough late to survive the CofC push.
• The Dukes fired out the gates early, and pushed the lead to 18 in the second before settling for a 13-point lead at the half. The Cougars threatened to push back in the third by bringing it as close as seven, but saved their big push for the fourth quarter.
• Trailing by seven with three minutes to play, the Dukes committed a flagrant foul, which allowed
Nola Henry to strike from the line and maintained CofC possession.
Tanisha Brown immediately got fouled on the inbound, hit both of her free throws, and after a JMU turnover on the other end,
Breanna Bolden hit a layup. The full sequence brought the game to within two with two minutes to play, but that's as close as the Cougars would come.
• Bolden ended the day with a game-high and season-high 25 points on 10 of 18 shooting, adding five boards, five assists and four steals. The effort brought her to 1600 career points, which moved her past Temple Elmore (1981-85) for No.6 on the CofC All-Time career scoring list.
•
Tanisha Brown recorded her second strong game in a row, pouring in 22 points on 10 of 18 shooting to go with six boards.
Darien Huff joined her in double-digits with 11 points.
• The two teams were dead-even in rebounding neither team had dreadful outings in the turnover department, and the field goal shooting was comparable as well. The squads combined for 57 free throw attempts (32 for JMU, 25 for CofC), but the Dukes separated themselves by scoring nine three-pointers to CofC's three.
• Four Dukes reached double figures in scoring, led by Precious Hall's 25 points. The senior converted 10 of her 12 free throw attempts, and was 6 of 16 from the field.
The Cougars remain home all of next weekend, when they will host Northeastern and Delaware on Friday and Sunday respectively.
