CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Breanna Bolden and
Courtney Gardner both hit significant milestones in the College of Charleston's (9-19, 6-11) senior day showdown with Delaware (15-13, 9-8), but it wasn't enough to pull off the win as the Blue Hens prevailed 69-56.
• The game was a tale of two halves. Though Delaware maintained the lead they gained midway through the first, the College kept things tight and in single-digits through the entire opening two quarters. It wasn't until the middle of the third that the Cougars fell into double-digit territory, a deficit they'd endure through the remainder of the game.
• The College had very centralized scoring throughout the game, with three players reaching double-digit scoring before a fourth player managed to get on the board. Bolden led the way with a 23-7-3, and matched a CofC Division I Era record by going 11 of 11 from the free throw line. In addition, the senior passed Debbie Bouknight (1975-78) to move up to No. 4 on the CofC All-Time scoring list. At 1651 points, she only trails Kelli Garrett (1886), Regina Brown (1814) and Nessie Harris (1796).
•
Tanisha Brown came close to a double-double with 14 points, eight boards and four steals.
Darien Huff was electrifying from beyond the arc, connecting on her first four three-point attempts to finish with 12.
Courtney Gardner earned the first start of her season, and wound up with a career-high 11 rebounds.
• The two teams logged similar statlines in the majority of categories, including turnovers, steals, blocks, rebounds and fouls. The Cougars actually had the advantage with 19 free throw opportunities to Delaware's 11, but the Blue Hens separated themselves in the field, shooting 27 of 68 (39.7%) to CofC's 18 of 59 (30.5%).
• If the CAA Tournament started today, the Cougars would be the No. 10 seed, and would play against UNCW in the first round.
The Cougars will close out the regular season on the road on Wednesday, when they head to Harrisonburg to face off with James Madison.
