CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston track & field program heads across the city for its second outdoor meet of the season this Friday, when they compete in the Charleston Southern Spring Break Invitational.
It will be the Cougars' first track and field competition in North Charleston since 2008 when they competed at the Buccaneer Invitational. Former Cougars Summer Chambless and Amy Laughlin made headlines for the College in that one, as both registered fourth-place finishes in the pole vault and 1500m respectively.
The Cougars come off a successful opening meet to the outdoor season after finishing fifth at last weekend's Seahawk Invitational. The Cougars made nine improvements on their Top 10 performance lists, including six in the throws between Simone Harris, Asia Johnson, Alex Coyle and Jenny Martin.
All told, 21 teams will come to the Bagwell-Settle Track to compete. The Citadel will make an appearance, meaning all three Division I institutions in the Lowcountry will be competing against one another. Additionally, Division I opponents such as Liberty, North Dakota, SC State, Bryant and Northern Kentucky will all be in attendance.
Friday competition begins at 10 a.m. with the javelin throw. Sprints will begin at 12:25 p.m. with the 100m hurdles, and distance events begin at 7:15 p.m. with the steeplechase. For fans wishing to attend, tickets for a single day will cost $7, while a two-day ticket will cost $10.
