LINCOLN, Neb. --- Tommy Richter (Wayne, Pa.) picked up two doubles, while
Logan McRae (Florence, S.C.) and
Joey Mundy (Huntington, W.Va.) each drove in a run, as the College of Charleston baseball team fell to Nebraska by a score of 6-2 in Sunday's series finale at Hawks Field.
Nebraska (9-8) plated six runs on six hits and six walks, while The College (8-12) scored twice on eight base knocks – including three doubles. Richter paced the Cougar offense with two doubles and a walk, while
Danny Wondrack (Wall, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with two singles. McRae and Mundy each drove in a run.
Griffin McLarty (Buckner, Ky.) surrendered three runs on two hits and three walks in three and one-third innings to take the loss.
Carter Love (Charlotte, N.C.) went two and two-thirds and allowed two runs on four hits.
Kris Kuhn (Summerville, S.C.) and
Justin Baker (Huntersville, N.C.) combined for the final two frames.
Mojo Hagge and Angelo Altavilla each drove in two runs to lead the Huskers, as Hagge reached three times on a hit and two walks. Jake Meyers tossed six shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out three to earn the win, as Robbie Palkert, Nate Fisher, and Luis Alvarado each went one inning in relief.
The Huskers opened the scoring in the third, when Schleppenbach came across on a sac fly by Altavilla to give Nebraska an early 1-0 lead. A four-run fourth would push the Husker advantage to 5-0, as Hagge capped the frame with a two-run single to right.
The Cougars got one back in the seventh after Richter lined a one-out double down the left field line, and Mundy drove him in with a pinch-hit single to left center to cut the lead to 5-1. Nebraska answered with one in the home half to stretch the margin to 6-1 after Altavilla came home on a passed ball.
Luke Manzo (Marietta, Ga.) singled to lead off the eighth, and
Erven Roper (Easley, S.C.) doubled to left center to start another rally effort. McRae followed two batters later with a sac fly to left, scoring Manzo to trim the margin to 6-2 before a pop out to second ended the threat.
Charleston will begin an eight-game home stand on Tuesday when former CofC head coach Monte Lee brings his nationally-ranked Clemson Tigers to Patriots Point. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
