CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's golf team hosts its final home tournament of the season with the fifth annual Briar's Creek Invitational to be held on March 20-21 at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek on Johns Island, S.C.
The par-72, private golf community and course designed by Rees Jones will play at 6,101 yards. Ten Top-50 ranked teams comprise this year's field including No. 6-ranked Florida – the reigning two-time Briar's Creek Invitational champions who shot a tournament-low 858 (-6) – 11 strokes better than runner-up Indiana (+5) in last year's tournament.
The Cougars and Gators are joined in the strong field by No. 14 Miami (Fla.), No. 27 Ohio State, No. 29 Illinois, No. 32 Texas Tech, No. 34 North Carolina, No. 41 Auburn, No. 43 Louisville, No. 44 Wisconsin, No. 49 East Carolina, Boston College, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Kansas, Long Beach State, Michigan State and Penn State.
"We will definitely have to play well this week as this is the strongest field of the spring thus far," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "The strength of the field is a testament to how well respected the Briar's Creek Invitational has become in just a few short years. We look forward to the competition."
CofC will start reigning CAA Women's Golfer of the Week Mary Fran Hillow (Orlando, Fla.), who is coming off a fourth-place finish at the UNF Collegiate, senior Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany), senior Vici Drechsler (Munich, Germany), freshman Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.) and freshman Anna-Theresa Rottluff (Meerbusch, Germany). Junior Josefine Garton (Linkoping, Sweden) and freshman Savanah Goodman (Easley, S.C.) will compete as individuals.
Monday's first and second rounds will be a 9:00 a.m. (ET) shotgun start with 36 holes of continuous play. Tuesday's final round is set for an 8:45 a.m. (ET) shotgun start. The Cougars will be paired with Miami and North Carolina and tee-off the No. 1 tomorrow morning. Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com
