CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston track & field program gears up for its third weekend of competition of the outdoor season, and will set its sights on the state capitol for the Weems-Baskin Invitational, hosted by USC.
The Cougars come off a successful outing at the CSU Spring Break Invitational. As a team, CofC submitted 11 new marks on the Top 10 performances, and picked up three event wins in the steeplechase (Ellen Feringa, 11:12.51) long jump (Leona Burton Rojas, 5.53m) and high jump (Julisa Tindall, 1.65m). Kennay Agnew meanwhile broke the eight-year old CofC school record in the 100m dash after running a 12.29 in the finals to take fifth.
The Cougars haven't traveled to USC in the outdoor season since March 2014. The big story for the College in that outing was the quartette of Christa Horrocks, Lindsey Peterson, Rachel Leder and Lorna Doucette breaking the then-decade-old 4x100m relay record with a time of 48.63. That record stood until last season, when the Cougars submitted five times over the course of the year that were superior. This will be the first of three trips by the College to Weems Baskin Track this season.
The meet will span Friday and Saturday, with things kicking off at 9 a.m. in the hammer throw. Track events will begin with the 400m dash at 3:15 p.m. Friday's action will finish up with the long jump at 6 p.m.
