COLUMBIA, S.C. – The College of Charleston track & field squad wrapped things up in the final day of the USC Weems Baskin Invitational Saturday, putting up some particularly impressive performances in the distance events.
Sophomore Ellen Feringa and South Carolina's Mary Reiser went stride for stride in the 3000m run. Feringa shadowed Reiser for the first two thirds of the race before making her move late to finish first with a personal best time of 10:11.76. Carlee Cassidy had a similar story in the open 1500m run, but couldn't quite catch Appalachian State's Molly Pusateri as the senior finished in second with a time of 4:42.02.
Freshman Simone Harris paced the Cougars in both throwing events of the day, finishing seventh in the shot put with a lob of 12.58m and eighth in the discus with a toss of 38.15m. Julisa Tindall meanwhile finished fourth in the high jump with a season-best leap of 1.68m.
Jenny Martin took 23rd in the 100m hurdles, submitting a new personal best of 15.07 seconds to eclipse her former high of 15.13. Katherine Linn finished 26th in the 400m version, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:07.25.
Leona Burton Rojas continued her impressive meet with a time of 25.80 seconds in the 200m dash, tying her for ninth on the CofC Top 10 All-Time performance list. Marissa Small-Towns rounded things out with a time of 2:18.02 in the 800m to take 12th.
The Cougars return to action next weekend, and will do so against a few conference rivals as they head up to Williamsburg for William & Mary's Colonial Relays.
