CHARLESTON, S.C. – With the indoor season concluded, the College of Charleston track and field program sets its sights forward to the outdoor campaign, which kicks off with the UNCW Invitational, a three-day meet beginning on Thursday at the Harold Green Track Complex in Wilmington, N.C.
Sophomore sprinter Kennay Agnew headlined the indoor season, breaking her own records in the 60m and 200m dashes. All told, the Cougars saw 22 new marks adorn their Top 10 Lists through the indoor campaign, most significantly in the shot put where CofC submitted five new Top 10 performances.
"We made a good bit of progress in indoor this year," head coach Amy Seago said. "We established a foundation that's only the start of what's to come. We have our work cut out for us if we want to improve in the conference standings, but we have a talented and hard-working group that's determined to get better."
Since joining the CAA, the Cougars have made Wilmington a mainstay, and have visited their conference rival every outdoor season since 2014. The last time CofC was at the venue, the 4x100m relay quartette of Agnew, Deanna King, Brianna Lewis and Timesha Moody made headlines by smashing the CofC school record by over a second.
The UNCW Invitational will mark the second meet hosted by the Seahawks this season, following last weekend's Battle of the Beaches, a dual meet against Coastal Carolina. This meet will be a significantly larger affair, with 26 women's teams expected to participate. Those include regional rivals Campbell, UNCG, Coastal Carolina, and of course UNCW.
