WILMINGTON, N.C. – Nine more performances put points on the board for the Cougars on the final day of the Seahawk Invitational, as the College of Charleston track & field team finished fifth with a score of 58.5.
The Cougars finished just 1.5 points back of fourth-place Campbell, but were able to overtake CAA-rival UNCW's score of 54. North Dakota won the meet with a tally of 128 points.
The Cougars opened the day with a sterling effort from its 4x100m relay quartette of Maya Pringle, Leona Burton Rojas, Deanna King and Kennay Agnew. The squad was able to finish fifth with a time of 48.54 seconds, which was the fifth-fastest time in CofC history. Agnew went on to grab fourth place in the 400m dash (59.66), while also taking 13th in the 200m (26.097), finishing 4/1000 of a second behind her running-mate King (26.093).
Carlee Cassidy and Ellen Feringa dominated the 2000m steeplechase, finishing 1-2 with times of 7:09.12 and 7:14.83 respectively. Tori Churchill put points on the board with a fifth place finish in the mile, while Kayla Ennis logged a time of 1:09.82 in the 400m hurdles to capture sixth.
In the throws, the Cougars found great success in the shot put, where three athletes fought their way onto the CofC Top 10 performance list. Freshman Simone Harris became the No. 2 shot putter in school history with a heave of 12.76m to finish fifth. Asia Johnson followed suit, finishing ninth with a lob of 12.33m to reach No. 5 on the list, while senior Alex Coyle rounded things out at No. 8 (10.99m). Harris struck again in the discus throw, etching her name at No. 5 in the event with a ninth place toss of 39.28m.
Julisa Tindall and Breanna Tatum rounded things out in the jumps. Tatum finished fifth in the triple jump (11.03m) to jump to No. 6 in the event in school history, while Tindall grabbed third in the high jump with a vault of 1.60m.
The Cougars will return to action next weekend, when they will remain in the Lowcountry to take part in the CSU Spring Break Invitational.
