CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston track & field program heads to the State Capital for the second of three times this season, as they will take part in the Gamecock Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina on April 15 at the brand new Sheila and Morris Cregger Track.
The Cougars come off a solid outing at the North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. last Saturday. Carlee Cassidy paced the Cougars, winning the 3000m steeplechase with a season-best time of 10:43.08 to crack the Top 48 in the region. The College also did well in the throws, establishing three new entries on the CofC Top 10 Performance lists across the discus and shot put.
When the Cougars were at Weems Baskin Track just a few weeks ago, it was the distance runners who turned heads. Cassidy notched a second place effort in the 1500m run, while Ellen Feringa pulled off an outright victory in the 3000m.
All told, 30 programs will compete at the meet, including Division I programs such as Alabama State, Army, Campbell, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Delaware State, George Mason, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Illinois, Liberty, NC State, Savannah State and SC State.
Field events begin with the hammer throw at 9 a.m., and run through 4:30 p.m. when the shot put begins. As for the track events, things will get underway with the 5000m run at 10 a.m., and proceed until the 4x400m relay at 5:20 p.m.
