Cougars Battle to Blow By Bulldogs 6-1

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's tennis team (13-7) completed the season sweep of SC State at the Hardeep Judge Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon, blitzing past the Lady Bulldogs (4-9) early for the 6-1 win.
The Cougars and Lady Bulldogs split two doubles sets on courts one and two, setting up a point-deciding showdown on court three. Christi Woodson and Sarah Jane Jones trailed early, but fought their way back, forced a tiebreak, and picked up the point by way of a 7-6(3) victory.
Anastasia Palaska was the first Cougar finished in singles play, overwhelming Claudia Roca 6-1, 6-0 on court five to pull off the win.
After some time, Christi Woodson (6-3, 6-1) and Mara Argyriou (6-2, 6-2) finished within a minute of one another on courts 2 and 3 respectively to seal the win. Liza Fieldsend helped pour it on shortly thereafter with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph on court one to make it 5-0 CofC.
SC State got a point back on court four when Marketa Marcanikova came back for the 0-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over Rachel McNeely, but Turner Yates ensured the Cougars ended things on a high note, battling for the 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-8 win on court six.
The Cougars will remain on the road next weekend for a pair of CAA matches against Elon and James Madison.
