
Track & Field Finishes Off Regular Season at USC Open

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The College of Charleston track & field program undertook its final tune up of the regular season on Saturday, competing in the USC Open.
The Cougars once again impressed in the throws, led by Asia Johnson's massive PR in the shot put. The freshman snagged fourth by way of a lob of 13.79m, eclipsing her previous best by a full meter and propelling her past her teammate Simone Harris up to No. 2 on the CofC Top 10 performance list.
Harris had a solid outing in her own right, finishing sixth in the discus with a throw of 38.63m and 11th in the hammer with a PR of 39.91m. Courtney Brooks finished ahead of her in ninth with a PR of 45.30m.
Jenny Martin rounded out the throws with a heave of 35.48m to take fifth, while also finishing 12th in the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.90. Katherine Linn competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing 12th as well with a time of 1:07.67.
The Cougars' best single event was the 3000m run, where four athletes finished among the Top 8. Carlee Cassidy finished second overall with a time of 10:03.01, followed by Ellen Feringa (3rd; 10:04.69), Tori Churchill (5th; 10:32.08) and Cara Butcher (6th, 10:36.06). Lizzie Parrish established a new personal best (5:07.77) in the 1500m run, finishing 15th.
In the jumps, Julisa Tindall was tied for second place with a height of 1.70m in the high jump, while Breanna Tatum took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.22m.
Marissa Small-Towns (2:17.24) and Jordan Gravelle (2:21.72) rounded things out in the 800m run, finishing fifth and eighth respectively.
The Cougars will now set their sights on the CAA Championships, hosted by the University of Delaware on May 5-6.
