The College Finishes Seventh at CAA Championships

NEWARK, DEL. – Three Cougars were able to earn podium appearances and the College secured a seventh-place finish to conclude the CAA Championships in Newark, Del.
Jenny Martin took home bronze in the heptathlon on Saturday, breaking Isabel Boersma's six-year old school record in the process with a score of 4553 points. Julia Petruch closed out her collegiate career with a score of 4008 to capture fifth, Sarah Lynch finished in seventh with a score of 3880, and the Cougars were able to earn a combined 12 points in the event.
Carlee Cassidy was next to climb onto the podium, finishing third in the 3000m steeplechase with a season-best time of 10:36.51. Ellen Feringa finished in eighth (11:08.39) despite incurring a lower-body injury during the race, spelling a seven-point effort for the College in the event.
Julisa Tindall closed out her College of Charleston career with a second place effort in the high jump, putting up a height of 1.70m to rake in eight points and bring her weekend total to 11. Elsewhere in the jumps, Breanna Tatum finished 16th in the triple jump with a distance of 10.68m.
The Cougars came very close to scoring in the throws, but couldn't quite find pay dirt. Asia Johnson opened the day qualifying for finals in the shot put, but her distance of 13.18m earned her a ninth place finish just outside of scoring range. Later on, Simone Harris qualified for discus finals as well, yet she also finished ninth despite a big PR of 41.55m. Lydia Bussey achieved a personal best in the event as well with a toss of 36.75m.
The Cougars closed things out in the relays, earning a combined three points between the 4x100m and 4x400m. All told, the College scored 34 points for the meet.
