CHARLESTON, S.C. – Two big moments await this week for College of Charleston senior Laura Fuenfstueck.

The three-time Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golfer of the Year is one of six individuals who will compete at the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Athens Regional hosted by the University of Georgia on May 8-10 at UGA Golf Course in Athens, Ga.

Upon her return to Charleston from Athens later in the week, the WGCA All-American Scholar will walk across the stage on The Cistern Yard and graduate from the CofC School of Business summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in finance on Saturday.

"It's been a great experience over the last four years at The College," Fuenfstueck said. "Charleston is a great place. The whole campus community, the city, the food, the golf courses, the people (coaches, teammates, classmates and professors) and the weather are things I will miss after my time is done here in Charleston."

One of the most decorated student-athletes (male or female) in CofC Athletics history, Fuenfstueck holds numerous school career and single-season records and will look to turn professional after her four-year career at The College comes to a close.

Back in 2013, she arrived on campus continuing a pipeline of talented golfers hailing from Germany in Steffi Kirchmayr (2006-09), Leigh Whittaker (2008-12) and Katharina Boehm (2009-13). Freshman Anna-Theresa Rottluff is the latest addition to that recruiting pipeline spearheaded by head coach Jamie Futrell.

During her freshman campaign, Fuenfstueck immediately made her name known being tabbed CAA Women's Golfer of the Year and CAA Rookie of the Year. She also turned in a school single-season record three tournament wins including the conference individual title and has continued to flourish four years later.

This season, Fuenfstueck surpassed Kirchmayr in the school record books for career tournament wins (5) and also was named conference player of the year for the third time, which surpassed Kirchmayr's two nods as Southern Conference Player of the Year.

With her selection last week, Fuenfstueck also became the first-ever Cougar to make four-straight NCAA Regional appearances – twice as a team in 2014 and 2015 and twice as an individual in 2016 and 2017. CofC can now boast representation at NCAA Regionals in 10 of the last 12 years – consistently making a name for itself as one of the top women's golf programs in the country.

Currently ranked No. 77 in the world amateur golf rankings and No. 90 in the Golfstat college rankings, Fuenfstueck has competed for the German National Team and looks to become only the second women's golfer in program history to play on the LPGA Tour behind former CofC standout Joanna Klatten (2007-08), who hails from France.

"After graduation, I plan to turn professional," Fuenfstueck said. "Over the last four years, we've played some very strong fields and it has definitely prepared me on the golf course. From the tough golf courses we've played, to the quality of competition, coming to the College of Charleston has been the whole package. It definitely gets you ready for the tour."

The Athens Regional includes a strong field comprised of No. 3-ranked Alabama, host and No. 8 Georgia, No. 11 Northwestern, No. 14 Arizona, No. 19 Baylor, No. 22 Wake Forest, UCF, Tennessee, North Carolina, Clemson, Augusta, Auburn, Kansas State, Michigan State, Troy, Princeton, North Florida and Quinnipiac. The UGA Golf Course will play at 6,344 yards.

Fuenfstueck heads into regionals as the runner-up at the 2017 CAA Championship finishing one stroke off the lead with a 1-over par 217 with rounds of 71, 74 and 72 to garner a spot on the CAA All-Tournament Team. She boasts a school-record and league-best 72.47 scoring average over 32 rounds and finished in the Top-10 in eight of the 11 tournaments in which she played including two regular-season tournament wins.

"Laura's game looks very good right now," Futrell said. "The course sets up well for her. It will be a tough task for her, but she is playing well enough to make a run at qualifying for nationals."

The low six teams and the low three individuals not on those teams from each regional site (total of 24 teams and 12 individuals) will advance to the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship hosted by Northern Illinois University on May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.

Fuenfstueck will tee-off the No. 1 tomorrow morning at 8:18 a.m. (ET) and be paired with Jessica Peng of Mississippi State and Lisa Pettersson of East Carolina. Live tournament scoring for all three rounds will be available at: www.Golfstat.com
