CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston equestrian team will open its fall season at the Georgia Southern Fall IHSA Show on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Evermore Farm in Brooklet, Ga.
The Cougars have added 12 freshmen and a transfer to this year's roster along with 30 returning riders.
Sophomore Elizabeth High will compete in Walk/Trot; senior Emily Rees in Beginning Walk/Trot/Canter; sophomore Annika Vilcins and freshman Ruby Gonzales in Walk/Trot/Canter; junior Sammie Barton, senior Kathleen Perry and sophomore Gabrielle Bernier in Novice Flat; sophomore Molly Coyle and junior Hannah Bentz in Novice Fences; junior Shannon Rice and senior Christina Hayden in Intermediate Flat; senior Rio Parker and sophomore Olivia Baldwin in Intermediate Fences; junior Avery Jackson in Open Flat; and senior Annie Kuniansky and senior Hannah Showell in Open Flat and Open Fences.
"The start of a new season is always exciting for the team," CofC Head Coach Bob Story said. "Hurricane Irma put us about a week behind in our practice schedule, but the riders have had a great two weeks to prepare for the Georgia Southern competition. Our focus, as always, will be to ride mistake free and to ride to the standards that we set for every competition."
Last year, CofC finished in a three-way tie with Coastal Carolina and Converse College for high point college with 31 points at the Georgia Southern Fall Show, while Showell was high point rider.
