CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team begins play at the ITA Carolina Regional this weekend at the KenField Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. The tournament begins with qualifying action on Thursday with singles action rolling through until Monday afternoon.
The singles and doubles winners from each of the 12 USTA/ITA regions advance to the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, held November 7-11, at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.
Two freshman Charleston student-athletes will compete this weekend including Lily LaBiche and Eva Nyikos. In the last fall tournament held at Charleston Southern, Nyikos picked up doubles champions honors and looks to continue a strong start to her CofC career in singles action on Thursday. LaBiche will see her first tournament as a Cougar begin on Thursday morning when she competes in single elimination qualifying action against Bethan Taylor of Presbyterian College at 9 a.m.
Quotable – Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo
"The Carolina's Regional may very well be the toughest regional in the nation. It will be a great opportunity for two of our new players, Eva [Nyikos] and Lily [LaBiche] to measure themselves against the best of the best… It should be a challenging but fun weekend."
