HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team will be a No. 4 seed in the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Championship despite suffering a close 1-0 loss on the road at Hofstra to close out the regular season.
The Pride scored early, having the ball in the net just 3 minutes into the contest through Sabrina Bryan's conference leading 9th goal of the season.
Charleston looked to hit back immediately, Ana Lesmes delivering a corner for Sara Deutsch to rise highest but the header flew over.
Laura Ortega had one of her two looks at goal in the 30th minute, a long range effort that was always flying over the Hofstra crossbar with the Pride defense limiting the Charleston attack in the first half.
The Cougars had their first shot on target midway through the second half, Raymara Barreto playing a give and go at the top of the box, cutting back onto her left foot but the effort from 20-yards was straight at the goalkeeper.
Meredith Holton was called into action during the second half, making two saves and seeing another effort hit the Charleston crossbar, but one goal was enough for Hofstra to take the three points.
With the loss the Cougars solidify a No. 4 seed in the upcoming CAA Championships set to begin on Friday, with the quarterfinal rounds held on campus sites. The semifinal round will follow on Sunday with the Championship set for the following weekend at the highest remaining seed.
