CHARLESTON, S.C. – The spring season gets started this weekend for the College of Charleston equestrian team as it heads to the Georgia Southern Show on Feb. 3 at Evermore Farms in Brooklet, Ga.
In the fall, the equestrians turned in three first-place finishes including a fall season-opening win at Georgia Southern. Head Coach Bob Story says he is ready to have his team compete. "Give me a time and a place and we'll show up."
"We like going to Georgia Southern," he said. "We've ridden their horses enough to have a pretty good idea of how they will be. I expect to win every time we enter the ring. Having said that, the reality is there are so many variables involved that you have to be prepared for anything going into the ring."
Competing for the Cougars will be Ruby Gonzales, Cassidy Hyatt and Jenna McIntosh in Walk/Trot/Canter; Hannah Bentz, Molly Coyle, Madison King and Kate Zuckerman in Novice Flat; Sammie Barton and Makenna Grierson in Novice Fences; Sammie Barton and Olivia Moriarty in Intermediate Flat; Beverly Davis and Christina Hayden in Intermediate Fences; Avery Jackson, Annie Kuniansky and Shannon Rice in Open Flat and Rio Parker and Hannah Showell in Open Fences.
Schooling riders: Dorian Cieslak, Gabrielle Bernier, Samantha Bledsoe, Olivia Baldwin and Allyson Pace.
"The team focuses on the fundamentals of sound riding theory," Story said. "If they go in and do their job, then they will have successful results. You can't be ordinary and expect winning results."
