MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- Coastal Carolina struck for six runs in the first three innings, and held the College of Charleston baseball team to three hits en route to a 13-0 win over the Cougars in midweek action on Wednesday evening at Patriots Point.
Coastal Carolina (4-1) totaled 13 runs on 15 hits – four for extra bases – while scoring in each of the first five innings to jump out to an early lead. The Chanticleers limited College of Charleston (3-1) to a trio of base knocks, as
Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.),
Danny Wondrack (Wall, N.J.), and
K.J. Bryant each picked up a base hit.
The Cougars sent six pitchers to the mound, including collegiate debuts for
Zach Williams (Marietta, Ga.) and
Patch Dooley (Deer Park, N.Y.). Williams spun three and one-third scoreless innings of relief work, allowing just one hit and striking out six. Dooley pitched a scoreless ninth with one hit and one strikeout.
Kyle Skeels paced the Chanticleers with a 2-for-3 effort that included a double and four RBIs. Kevin Woodall, Jr. went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and two solo home runs, as Kieton Rivers drove in two runs. Parker Chavers posted a 4-for-5 night with two runs scored.
Anthony Simonelli made his collegiate debut on the mound for the Chanticleers, tossing seven shutout innings with three hits and two strikeouts. Dylan Gentry and Zach McCambley each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
The Cougars are back in action on Friday when they open a four-game set with LIU Brooklyn at Patirots Point. First pitch is set for 4:00 pm.
