Cougars Cap Strong Weekend With Win At Phebe Corckran King Women's

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- The trio of Paris Henken (Coronado, Calif.), Liza Toppa, and Elizabeth Mignon (Bay Head, N.J.) finished first in B-Division to propel the College of Charleston sailing team to an eight-point win at the Phebe Corckran King Women's at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex, as the Cougars also placed third at the Mendelblatt Team Race in St. Petersburg, Fla. to cap a strong second weekend of the spring season.
The Cougars claimed the top spot at the Corckran King Women's with 80 points, beating out second-place Stanford's total of 88 points while finishing atop both A- and B-Divisions. Henken, Liza Toppa, and Mignon totaled 34 points in B-Division, as Alie Toppa, Annabel Carrington (White Stone, Va.), and Caroline Bracken (Bridgewater, Mass.) topped A-Division with 46 points.
At the Mendelblatt Team Race, the Cougars finished the weekend with a 14-5 record to place third behind South Florida's record of 15-4. Stanford won the team race with a near-perfect 19-1 record. Skippers Christophe Killian (Newport Beach, Calif.), Augie Dale (Pewaukee, Wis.), and Dirk Johnson teamed with crew Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.), Katherine Lounsbury (Jensen Beach, Fla.), and Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) to rebound from a 5-3 round robin mark with a 6-2 record in round two, and a perfect 3-0 mark in the top-five on Sunday.
The Cougars will return to competition with three regattas next weekend. Charleston will host two regattas at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex: the Spring Ocean Race on Saturday, March 3, and the Bob Bavier Team Race on Saturday, March 3, and Sunday, March 4. The Cougars will also travel to Clemson, S.C. for the North Points #2 on Saturday, March 3.
