MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- The College of Charleston sailing team put together another strong performance on the water this weekend with a six-point victory at the North Points #2 in Clemson, S.C., and finished second at the Bob Bavier Team Race at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex.
The Cougars opened the weekend with a victory at the North Points #2, winning five of the regatta's six races – including an A-Division sweep by Jack Johansson (Miami, Fla.) and Max Williams (Denver, Colo.). Marian Williams (Sai Kung, Hong Kong, China) and Katherine Matheson (San Diego, Calif.) won B-Division with five points to help the Cougars to the six-point win over Georgia Tech.
Charleston finished the Bob Bavier Team Race tied with Roger Williams at 15-4, but ended the regatta in second place due to a 1-2 head-to-head record with Roger Williams. The Cougars advanced out of round one with a 6-2 record, and after going 7-1 in round two, entered the top four trailing Roger Williams by one. After dropping race one of the top four to Yale, the Cougars bounced back with victories against Georgetown and Roger Williams to end the weekend with a 15-4 record.
Christophe Killian (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Annabel Carrington (White Stone, Va.) were paired together for the Cougars, as were Stefano Peschiera (Lima, Peru) and Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.), and Augie Dale (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Carter Cameron (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.). Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.) jumped in with Killian for one race, while Katie Lounsbury (Jensen Beach, Fla.) spelled Cameron for three races alongside Dale.
The Cougars are scheduled to participate in four regattas next weekend: Harbor Cup Offshore in Los Angeles, Calif. on March 9-11; North Points #3 in Columbia, S.C. on March 10-11; Navy Spring Women's in Annapolis, Md. on March 10-11; and the Charleston Coed at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex on March 10-11.
