Lowerclassmen Lead the Way for Cougars at Camel City Invite

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The College of Charleston track & field program wrapped things up at the Camel City Invite on Saturday, concluding the two-day meet held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Sophomore Leona Burton Rojas shaved six hundredths of a second off her PR in the 60m dash, finishing 31st with a time of 8.03 seconds which moved her up from sixth into a tie for fourth on the CofC Top 10 performance list. Elsewhere in the sprints, Marissa Linkous was just 0.02 seconds shy of a 200m PR as the freshman finished 19th with a time of 26.32 seconds.
In the distance events, Cate Ambrose had a historic outing as well, as the freshman submitted a 15th place time of 10:20.41 in the 3000m dash, debuting her at No. 7 on the CofC Indoor Top 10 performance list. Ambrose also ran the lead leg for a ninth place Distance Medley Relay team that included Hannah Vanderwall, Rachel Lentz and Ellen Feringa. Elsewhere, Jace Kosiorek submitted a personal best time of 5:53.27.
Rounding things out in the jumps, freshman Laurel Miller finished third overall in the high jump as she matched her indoor personal best height of 1.65m, while Stephanie Laudien took 15th in the triple jump with a distance of 10.88m.
The Cougars' next meet will have them return to JDL Fast Track for the third and final time this season when they partake in the UCS Invitational, which begins on Feb. 16th.
