CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (5-18, 1-11) fell at home to the Drexel Dragons (18-5, 10-1) on Sunday by a score of 80-53.
• The College played Drexel tightly in the opening minutes of the game, but went cold with five-minute scoring drought that lasted nearly the entire second half of the first quarter. That allowed Drexel to push out to a 25-11 lead at the end of one, and CofC was unable to drop the deficit to single digits for the remainder of the contest.
•
Shiclasia Brown was the Cougars' primary source of offense, attacking the rack to score a team-high 18 points on 6 of 11 shooting from the field and 4 of 6 from the line.
Tanisha Brown joined her in double-digits with 10 points before fouling out, while Bri Boyd came off the bench to pull down a team-high ten rebounds.
• Drexel outshot the Cougars from the field with a 48.4% afternoon from the field, which included going 8 of 22 from deep. The Dragons also out-rebounded CofC 38-31, and saw Aubree Brown record her first career triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. She was one of five Drexel players to reach double-digit scoring.
• The Dragons advance to 10-1 in conference play, leaving them in second place just behind first-place James Madison. The Cougars meanwhile drop to tenth place by virtue of a UNCW road win over Hofstra.
The Cougars will hit the road next weekend, and will visit both the UNCW Seahawks and the Elon Phoenix on Friday and Sunday respectively.
