ORLANDO, Fla. – The College of Charleston women's golf team carded another low round on the final day of the UCF Challenge behind a final-round 72 from freshman Olivia Hamilton (Oakenshaw, England) on Tuesday afternoon at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Hamilton birdied the 8th, 13th and 15th to finish the three-day tournament tied for 37th (+8) individually with rounds of 78, 74 and 72. Sophomore Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.) shot a final-round 73 and tied for 53rd (+10) in a 90-player field with seven Top 100-ranked college golfers.
"Congrats to Olivia," Futrell said. "She played outstanding golf over the last two days of the tournament."
The Cougars climbed up three spots on the team leaderboard by turning in back-to-back low rounds on Monday and Tuesday to tie Memphis for 13th (+42) in a competitive field comprised of seven of the nation's Top 50-ranked teams. They finished six strokes ahead of CAA rival UNCW (+48) and 10 strokes better than Tulane (+52).
"I loved our competitiveness over the last two days," Futrell said. "Beating Tulane and CAA favorite UNCW are big wins for us. While we could not make up the ground we gave away on day one, we competed well against this strong field the final two days."
No. 41-ranked Miami (Fla.) won the team title with a three-round score of 868 (+4) followed by runner-up and No. 38 East Carolina (+8).
The Cougars will return to action by hosting the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic on Feb. 25-27 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Osprey Point and Oak Point courses on Kiawah Island, S.C.
