
Cougars Host Largest Collegiate Golf Tournament, 42-Team Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2018 edition of the College of Charleston-hosted Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic features 42 teams in this year's field and played on Feb. 25-27 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played on both the par-72, 5,964-yard Osprey Point course and par-72, 5,941-yard Oak Point course. After 36 holes of play, the Top 22 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 23-42 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point.
The tournament field includes Bethune Cookman, Boston University, Bucknell, Charleston Southern, CofC, East Tennessee State, Elon, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgia Southern, Georgetown, Hampton, High Point, Indiana State, IUPUI, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Longwood, Marshall, Navy, UNCG, UNCW, Murray State, North Florida, Omaha, Presbyterian, Quinnipiac, Richmond, Samford, Sandhills Community College, SCAD, Stephen F. Austin, Stetson, St. John's, South Dakota, Tennessee Tech, Towson, USC Upstate, UT Arlington, Western Carolina, Western Kentucky and William & Mary.
"This is a cool event," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "We thank Kiawah Island Golf Resort for hosting the largest tournament in the country. We have had a great two weeks of practice and I am looking forward to seeing how we play this coming week."
The Cougars will have two teams competing for this year's tournament title. Starting for CofC's top squad will be freshman Olivia Hamilton (Oakenshaw, England), junior Isi Nilsson (Santiago, Chile), sophomore Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.), senior Josefine Garton (Linkoping, Sweden) and sophomore Anna-Theresa Rottluff (Dusseldorf, Germany).
CofC's second squad will be comprised of junior Anna Buchanan (Athens, Ga.), sophomore Yuki Nakayama (Kanagawa, Japan), freshman Clarissa von Stosch (Kassel, Germany), sophomore Savanah Goodman (Easley, S.C.) and freshman Chloe Currie (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada).
Last year, Coastal Carolina won the team title for the second year in a row (+6), while host CofC was runner-up (+7). Former CofC standout Laura Fuenfstueck won individual medalist honors (-8) and East Tennessee State's Hee Ying Loy was the runner-up (-6).
Sunday's First Round and Monday's Second Round will be a Morning Wave 8:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start and Afternoon Wave 1:00 p.m. (ET) shotgun start on Osprey Point and Oak Point. Tuesday's Final Round will be an 8:45 a.m. (ET) shotgun start on both courses.
The Cougars' top squad will be paired with Georgetown at tee-off holes No. 1 through No. 3 at Osprey Point at 8:30 a.m. (ET).
