Cougars Host Mountaineers at Patriots Point Friday Morning

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (5-6) plays its penultimate home match of the season on Friday, when they will host the Appalachian State Mountaineers (8-6) at 10 a.m.
After winning two in a row in the state of Maryland, the Cougars will look to rebound from their most recent match, a 5-2 home-defeat at the hands of the Campbell Camels. Junior Benedikt Henning (6-2, 6-1) and sophomore Alec Angradi (2-6, 6-1, 6-1) both earned wins for the Cougars on the occasion, but it wasn't quite enough. Henning in particular has been a force for the College this year, posting a 7-3 singles clip and a 7-1 record in doubles play.
The Cougars have played the Mountaineers just once since leaving the SoCon, a 5-2 win two seasons ago at home. Juan Estevarena is the last CofC player still on the team who was around for that match, with the Argentinian winning both his doubles and singles encounters.
The Mountaineers were able to win their most recent match 4-1 against Bethune-Cookman, but did so to snap a three-match skid that included losses to Gardner-Webb, Stetson and Mercer. APSU's 18-year head coach Bob Lake stepped down in the middle of the season, and the squad is now led by acting head coach Jack Maddocks. Scott Webster is the team's ace and owns the best singles record on the team at 9-3 in top flight singles play.
