3/22/2018 6:50:00 PM | Women's Track & Field
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charletson track & field program will head to Columbia to try and continue their excellent start to the outdoor season, when they head to the University of South Carolina's Weems Baskin Invitational at Cregger Track.
The Cougars come off a strong showing at last weekend's Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, where they made a dozen new entries to the school's Top 10 Performance Lists. Freshman Marissa Linkous earned CAA Track Athlete of the Week honors after posting three sprint times that currently rank among the Top 5 in the CAA. She also came within 0.01 seconds of matching CofC's school record in the 100m dash by posting a 12.30.
Columbia is a venue very familiar to the Cougars, who traveled to Cregger Track on three different occasions last season. This year will be no different, as this is the first of two outings in the state capital for CofC in 2018.
CofC will be among an abundant field of competition, featuring opposition from Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Appalachian State, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, The Citadel, Coastal Carolina, Coppin State, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Florida A&M, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Hampton, Hartford, Morgan State, Newberry, Norfolk State, North Carolina, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Savannah State, South Carolina State, Tennessee State, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Virginia Tech, and Western Carolina.
The meet will feature two full days of competition on Friday and Saturday. Field events for Friday begin at 9 a.m., and the last event of the day will be the steeplechase, which begins just after 7 p.m. On Saturday, things start a bit later at 10 a.m., and finish up with the 4x400m relay which begins at 6:15 p.m.
