Cougars Cruise at Weems Baskin Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The College of Charleston track and field program had another strong outing at this weekend's Weems Baskin Invitational, as the Cougars competed at Cregger Track for the fourth time in the past calendar year.
The sprints headlined the meet for CofC for the second consecutive meet. After setting the fastest 400m time in the CAA last week, freshman Marissa Linkous cut another three tenths of a second off her PR when she finished ninth overall, moving up to No. 3 on the CofC Top 10 Performance List in the event. Elsewhere, Leona Burton Rojas submitted a sterling 200m time of 25.17 seconds, launching her up to No. 5 in school history.
Cate Ambrose finished first among the Cougars in the 800m with a time of 2:23.57, and took sixth place in the 1500m open (4:47.58) to move to No. 9 in school history in the event. Later on, Tess Masselink shined in the 1500m invitational, and surged to No. 5 on the list with her fifth place time of 4:41.80.
In the 400m hurdles, Holly Driver set a personal best for the second straight week with her tenth place time of 1:03.25, while Kayla Ennis jumped from eighth to seventh on the all-time list by crossing the finish line in a minute and 6.54 seconds. Jenny Martin finished first among the Cougars in the 100m iteration (15.25), and did likewise in the javelin throw invitational (37.58m), where she finished eighth.
Elsewhere in the throws, Courtney Brooks finished 14th overall in the hammer with a distance of 44.85m, while Lydia Bussey finished right behind her in 15th with a personal best toss of 43.56m. Simone Harris took ninth in the discus (39.76m).
CofC saw a pair of Top 10 finishes on its men's side, with Declan Hines finishing fourth in the 3000m (8:29.81) and Crew Kosiorek taking sixth in the 1500m (4:03.52).
The College returns to Columbia once more in two weeks, with the University of South Carolina's Gamecock Invitational on April 7th next up on the schedule.
