3/24/2018 3:15:00 PM | Men's Golf
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's golf team won't travel too far from home participating this week in The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on March 25-27 at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.
The Hootie at Bulls Bay is one of college golf's premier events played each spring since 2005 and co-hosted by the tournament's namesake band, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Bulls Bay Golf Club.
This year's 15-team, 54-hole tournament will play host to some of the top collegiate players in the country hailing from the University of South Carolina, College of Charleston, Auburn, Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Ole Miss, Georgia State, Wofford, Missouri, Louisville, Wisconsin, Georgia Southern, NC State, Iowa State and Kent State.
The Cougars have made five Top-10 finishes, eighth or better, this season and are led by reigning Colonial Athletic Association Men's Golfer of the Week Reed Bentley (Spartanburg, S.C.), who shot 4-under par to place 11th individually at The Schenkel Invitational last week in Statesboro, Ga.
Along with Bentley, CofC will start sophomore Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.), sophomore Colin Hamilton (Southlake, Texas), sophomore Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.) and sophomore Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.).
"This week is a special week for me and our team," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "When we lost Jackson Moore, it changed the way we looked at everything. This was his home course, where he was the club champion. We will be playing hard to honor him this week. I look at Jackson's picture everyday (at our home facility at The Links at Stono Ferry) and I hope that our players understand how important this tournament is to me and our program."
The event is free and open to spectators. Eighteen holes will be played on each day with split tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 between 10:00 a.m.-Noon (ET) on Sunday, 9:00-11:00 a.m. (ET) on Monday and 8:00-10:00 a.m. (ET) on Tuesday with the awards ceremony immediately following at 2:45 p.m. (ET).
Live tournament scoring and pairings for each round will be available at: www.BirdieFire.com
IN MEMORY OF JACKSON MOORE (1994-2015)
Jackson Moore, an Isle of Palms native, was recruited by the College of Charleston and joined the men's golf team in 2012. He was both a strong athlete and a strong student majoring in business administration. Jackson enjoyed early success as a top junior golfer in South Carolina, having learned to play at a young age with his father, Richard, and his older brother, Caulder. He loved the game and especially competing, whether on his home course at Bulls Bay or alongside his teammates in tournaments. To everyone who knew him, Jackson was funny and full of life. He was compassionate, kind and encouraging, and he could make anyone smile. At home and on the golf course, Jackson was the same. He brought to the course not only talent and a fierce work ethic, but also kindness, character and a love for both the people and the relationships at the heart of the game. Jackson was what every golfer aims to be: consistent, dedicated and a great guy to spend 18 holes with.
