COLUMBIA, S.C. – Despite buckets of rain showering the athletes on Saturday, the College of Charleston track & field team submitted several strong performances at USC's Gamecock Invitational.
Freshman Cate Ambrose made a big leap in the 1500m run, shaving nearly eight seconds from her previous personal best to take fifth with a time of 4:39.84 and vault up to No. 3 in school history in the event. Her teammate Tess Masselink also achieved a modest PR, shaving a little over a tenth of a second off her previous best with her eighth place time of 4:41.67.
Elsewhere on the track, Jenny Martin ran her season best 100m hurdle time (14.80) to take 22nd, while Holly Driver's time of 15.64 elevated her from No. 10 to No. 8 in the event in CofC history.
Junior Nicole Lane had a big day in the javelin throw, finishing sixth with a personal best distance of 36.74m. That elevated her to No. 4 on the CofC Top 10 list past former teammate and former CofC softball team member Mackenzie Maples. Madeline Weber took tenth in the event with her throw of 31.78m, which set a new PR as well.
Simone Harris unleashed a personal best discus throw of 43.99m to take fifth place in the event, and while she remains at No. 2 in CofC history, she moves within 75cm of Lindsay Baber's 14-year-old school record. In the hammer throw, Courtney Brooks finished tenth with her throw of 46m flat, while Lydia Bussey hit yet-another personal best this season with her toss of 44.04m.
