CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston track and field program heads to Columbia once again this Saturday, where it will take part in the University of South Carolina's Gamecock Invitational at Cregger Track.
CofC was originally slated to compete at Charleston Southern's Lowcountry Invitational this weekend, but the cancellation of that meet led the Cougars to the state capital for the second time this season instead.
The Cougars previously competed at USC just two weeks ago at the Weems Baskin Invitational. Both Cate Ambrose and Tess Masselink cracked the CofC Top 10 performance list in the 1500m with their strong performances in that one, while Leona Burton Rojas, Marissa Linkous, Holly Driver and Kayla Ennis cracked Top 10s in short distance events.
The field will comprise five regionally ranked programs in the Southeast Region in No. 5 NC State, No. 6 USC, No. 9 NC A&T, No. 13 George Mason and No. 14 Liberty. Other Division I opponents will include Alabama State, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Coppin State, Davidson, Georgia State, Hampton, Howard, Radford, SC State and VMI.
Field events begin at 9 a.m. with the hammer throw, while track events start an hour later at 10 a.m. with the 5000m. Competition is expected to conclude by around 6 p.m., with the shot put and the 4x400m relay closing things out.
