
Cougars Win North Points #5, Finish Second At Seahawk Team Race

WILMINGTON, N.C. --- The College of Charleston sailing team posted a trio of top-five finishes this weekend, including a 14-point win at the North Points #5 and a second-place performance at the Seahawk Team Race Invite in St. Mary's, Md.
The Cougars cruised to victory at North Points #5 on Saturday in Wilmington, N.C., totaling 14 points to halve second-place North Carolina State's total of 28. Nicole Simon (Coronado, Calif.) skippered B-Division to five points – one above the minimum – alongside crew Katherine Matheson (San Diego, Calif.), while Will Whitmore (Norfolk, Va.) and Peter Barron (Amagansett, N.Y.) totaled nine points in A-Division.
Charleston finished tied for first at the Seahawk Team Race Invite in St. Mary's, Md. with a 9-1 record. Jack Brown (Newtown Square, Pa.), Lawson Willard, and Steven Leuck (San Diego, Calif.) skippered, with Oliver Parsons (Stonington, Conn.), Mac Dickson (Alexandria, Va.), and Payton Alexander serving as crew. The Cougars sailed to a perfect 5-0 record in round one, and a 4-1 mark in round two.
At the Szambecki Team Race in Norfolk, Va., the Cougars placed fifth with an 8-6 record. Christophe Killian (Newport Beach, Calif.), Augie Dale (Pewaukee, Wis.), and Stefano Peschiera (Lima, Peru) skippered, with Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.), Katie Lounsbury (Jensen Beach, Fla.), and Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) crewing. Charleston posted a 5-4 record in round one, and a 3-2 record in the bottom six to finish fifth.
The Cougars are on the road for three regattas next weekend: Lynn Marchiando Team Race on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1 in Cambridge, Mass.; Dellenbaugh Women's on Saturday and Sunday in Cranston, Rd.; and the Sail Pack Invite on Saturday and Sunday in Oriental, N.C.
