MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (12-9) ended their three-match skid with authority on Wednesday, pelting Georgia Southern (7-6) in doubles and singles play to finish with a 6-1 victory.

Christi Woodson and Anastasia Palaska smashed their way to a 6-0 win on court one in doubles play, and Turner Yates and Laura Arciniegas clinched the point by winning 7-5 on court three. Though things were already decided, the most exciting match was on court two, where Helana Nyikos and Rachel McNeely played to a grueling 7-6(8) tiebreak win.

Woodson continued her torrid pace in singles, busting past Emilia Bujan 6-2, 6-0 to put the College up 2-0. Yates kept the ball rolling on court five, where she picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory to put CofC on the verge of victory with a 3-0 lead.

The CofC seniors finished things off within a minute of each other, with Nyikos (6-4, 7-5) and McNeely (6-2, 6-3) prevailing on courts one and three respectively to seal the deal for the Cougars. Court five was the lone match that required a third set, but Palaska handled her business 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 to pick up a sixth point for the College in the win.

"It was a good day to be a Cougar," team captain Sarah Zschunke said. "Everybody was out there competing hard, and our ladies refused to let up. I was really impressed, and that's just what we're going to need more of as we approach the end of the season."

CofC will have a day off before getting back to their home-stand, with James Madison next up on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
