CofC Logs Five Podium Finishes at Catamount Classic

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The College of Charleston track & field program had a solid outing at the WCU's Catamount Classic, finishing sixth against a field of 20 schools with 46 points.
Holly Driver continued her rise in the 400m hurdles on Saturday, finishing third overall with a time of 1:02.82 and elevating herself to No. 2 in school history in the event. Kayla Ennis also scored for the Cougars with her eighth place finish, and established a personal best of her own with her time of 1:06.20.
Leona Burton Rojas recorded the best finish of any Cougar with her second-place effort in the long jump. Her distance of 5.76m was just 4cm shy of matching her own personal best set earlier this season. In the triple jump, Stephanie Laudien scored a point for the Cougars with her leap of 11.21m to take eighth.
Nicole Lane had an excellent showing in the javelin throw for the second straight meet establishing a new PR of 41.01m to take third place and move up to No. 2 in school history. Jenny Martin finished just behind her in fourth place with a throw of 39.84m, and almost scored for the Cougars again with her ninth-place time of 15.02 in the 100m hurdles.
Marissa Linkous had a very busy day for the Cougars, scoring in three out of her four events. The freshman ran the lead leg of a second-place 4x400m relay team that also featured Jordan Dean, Ennis and Driver, while also taking seventh in the 200m (25.09), eighth in the 100m (12.38) and 11thin the 400m (59.95).
In the hammer throw, Courtney Brooks edged her personal best distance with her sixth-place throw of 46.53m, while Simone Harris was right on her tail in seventh (46.16m).
In the distance events, Jace Kosiorek scored for the Cougars with her sixth place 5000m time of 20:08. Cate Ambrose was just outside of scoring range in the 1500m, taking ninth with a time of 4:46.31. On the men's side, Declan Hines won the 5000m race outright with his time of 15:09.55.
The Cougars conclude their regular season next weekend when they depart to Durham for the Duke Invitational.
