Bucs Rally For 3-2 Win Over Cougars

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- After Luke Morgan (New Lenox, Ill.) launched a two-run home run in the first, Charleston Southern held the College of Charleston baseball team without a run over the final eight innings to squeak past the Cougars, 3-2, on Tuesday evening at Patriots Point.

Charleston Southern (11-19) pushed across three runs on seven hits, while limiting College of Charleston (21-9) to two runs on eight base knocks. Morgan accounted for the Cougars' scoring with a two-run homer in the first as part of a 2-for-4 night, while Cameron Garrett (Charleston, S.C.) added a pair of singles.

Brian Rourke (Germantown, Md.) allowed one run on two hits in three innings, while Justin Baker (Huntersville, N.C.) surrendered two unearned runs and struck out four in two and two-thirds to take the loss. Carter Love (Charlotte, N.C.) tossed three and one-third scoreless frames and struck out three to keep the Cougars within striking distance.

Christian Maggio, Mike Sconzo, and Derek Horton each drove in a run for the Bucs, as Maggio went 2-for-4 on the night. Horton, Jason Miller, and Alex Andronica all scored a run.

Will Hartsell surrendered two runs on five hits and struck out four in three and two-thirds innings, before Eddie Hiott retired all three batters he faced to earn the win. Seth Owens, Daniel Johnson, and Ryan Stoudemire combined for three and one-third scoreless frames of relief – with Johnson recording four strikeouts in one and two-thirds innings – before Cody Smith pitched around a one-out single in the ninth to record the save.

The Cougars and Bucs will wrap up the season series on Wednesday evening at CSU Ballpark on the campus of Charleston Southern. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
