
Third Set Rally Lifts Dayton Over Cougars, 3-1

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- The Dayton Flyers rallied from a 22-16 deficit in the third set, and carried the momentum into a 25-15 fourth-set win to defeat the No. 12 (VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll) College of Charleston volleyball team, 3-1, at the Bluegrass Battle on Saturday afternoon.
Dayton (4-2) defeated College of Charleston (2-4) by scores of 25-21, 13-25, 27-25, and 25-15, while attacking at a .300 clip and holding the Cougars to a hitting percentage of .202. The Cougars finished the match with 50 kills, 58 digs, nine service aces, and six blocks.
Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) paced the Cougars with 14 kills, eight digs, and a .345 hitting percentage, as Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) finished one kill shy of a double-double with 11 digs and nine kills. Mandy Napierala (Rochester, N.Y.) posted 10 kills, five blocks and a .333 hitting percentage, as Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) finished one dig shy of a double-double with 11 kills and nine digs.
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) recorded match-highs of 40 assists and four service aces, and passed Cougar great Cole Dawley for fourth on the program's all-time assists list in the match. Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) and McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) tallied nine and six digs, respectively.
Lauren Bruns led the way for Dayton with 17 kills and four blocks, while Amelia Moore added 10 kills on 14 swings without an error. Brook Westbeld and Bridget Doherty dished out 29 and 15 assists, respectively, as Margo Wolf recorded a match-high 13 digs.
The Cougars return to the court on Tuesday when they host South Carolina State at 7:00 pm in TD Arena.
