CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team returns to the familiar confines of TD Arena for the first of five home matches on Tuesday evening against South Carolina State, as the Cougars look to stop a four-match skid. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
Match Preview
The Cougars and South Carolina State meet on the court for the 13th time on Tuesday evening, with Charleston holding an unblemished 12-0 record all-time against the Bulldogs.
Scouting South Carolina State
South Carolina State comes into the match still seeking its first win of the season following setbacks to Jackson State, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, and Charleston Southern. Alexus Holt leads the Bulldogs and ranks seventh in the MEAC with 2.93 kills per set, while also pacing S.C. State in digs (2.57).
Climbing The Ladder
Senior Allison Beckman continued her rise through the program's all-time assists list this weekend, and with her third consecutive 40-assist performance on Saturday against Dayton, the Apex, N.C. native leapfrogged Cole Dawley for fourth with 3,755.
Double-Double Dynamos
Devon Rachel and Lauren Freed have been models of consistency for the Cougars through the first six matches, combining for seven of a possible 12 double-doubles. Freed has accounted for four double-doubles thus far - including three straight to start the campaign - while missing the mark by only one dig in each of the other two contests. Rachel owns three double-doubles this season, and narrowly missed three more.
Cougars At The Block
It has been a balanced effort on the block for the Cougars this season, with five players having recorded at least 10 blocks so far - and one other with nine. Madison leads the pack with 21 blocks, while Mandy Napierala and Peyton Eisnaugle have each posted 16 stuffs.
Milestone Madison
Senior Kennedy Madison began the 2018 season in style with three straight double-digit kill totals to become the 17th player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill mark. The 6-foot right side leads the Cougars in kills (3.72) and blocks (0.84) per set this season to go along with a .332 hitting percentage.
