CHARLESTON, S.C. – For the first time in program history, the College of Charleston women's golf team travels to the 50th state for the Rainbow Wahine Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai'i on Oct. 28-30 at the par-72, 6,128-yard Kapolei Golf Club in Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i.
The tournament field includes host UH, British Columbia, BYU, Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Grand Canyon, Illinois State, Incarnate Word, North Dakota, Northern Iowa, Sacramento State, Sam Houston State and Weber State.
The Cougars are the highest-seeded team this week and currently ranked No. 46 in the latest Golfstat Women's Team Rankings. They are playing some of their best golf having already notched two tournament wins this fall at the Elon Invitational and the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
On the final day at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Turtle Point course two weeks ago, the Cougars shot the lone under par team round to beat Coastal Carolina by one stroke for the Palmetto Intercollegiate team title for the second year in a row.
This week in paradise, CofC will start freshman Emily Dunlap (Greenville, S.C.), senior Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.), junior Jodee Tindal (Rock Hill, S.C.), senior Anna-Theresa Rottluff (Dusseldorf, Germany) and junior Olivia Hamilton (Oakenshaw, England). Dunlap was named Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golfer of the Week for the first time of her career on Oct. 16.
Competing as an individual will be freshman Daniela Spillert (Miami, Fla.).
"The team has enjoyed a couple of great days in Hawai'i," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "We now need to focus and continue playing like we have all fall. If we do that, we should have another chance to win a tournament championship."
The three-day tournament will be a 54-hole format with split tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 holes beginning each day at 7:30 a.m. (HT) / 1:30 p.m. (ET). The Cougars will be paired with North Dakota, Sam Houston State and British Columbia in the opening round.
