CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Sammy Campion (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Sofie Vogel (Golden Valley, Minn.) have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the College of Charleston and join the 15-time conference champion volleyball program in the fall of 2020, announced head coach Jason Kepner on Wednesday.
"We are excited to add Sammy and Sofie to the Cougar family," Kepner said. "Both of them have the ability to make a big impact as freshman. They are both going to bring so much to this program on the court, in the classroom, and in the Charleston community."
Sammy Campion | Outside Hitter | 5-11 | Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.
Campion comes to Charleston from Tesoro High School in Las Flores, Calif. where she has helped the Titans reach the second round of the state playoffs this season. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter spent the previous three seasons at Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora, Colorado, where she was a three-time all-conference honorable mention selection. The All-Centennial League Second Team performer has totaled 521 kills and 540 digs over her last two seasons at Cherokee Trail with a .324 kill percentage.
"Sammy is a high energy, super positive, hardworking player with a ton of potential," Kepner said. "She has great ball control and an outstanding feel for the game. Her work ethic will definitely help her make the transition to the college level."
Sofie Vogel | Middle Blocker | 6-1 | Golden Valley, Minn.
Vogel is a two-time all-conference honoree who joins the Cougars from Robbinsdale Armstrong High School in Plymouth, Minn. The 6-foot-1 middle blocker has totaled more than 700 kills over the last three seasons to go along with 168 blocks and 80 service aces. She put together a superb junior season in 2018 with 287 kills, 207 digs, 54 blocks and a .325 hitting percentage to earn all-conference recognition.
"Sofie is a high flying, hardworking middle who can play any position in the front row," Kepner said. She controls the ball really well which helps her in the middle or with a move to either pin. She has played at a high level and has great training which will make a seamless transition to CofC."
