Cougars Take Down Buccaneers In Lowcountry Showdown

The Short Story: The Cougars bounce back from a loss at home to defeat Charleston Southern, backed behind senior Deja Ford's 24 points.
 
QUICK FACTS
  • Ford logged 24 points, her third 20-point game of the season, while also posting a seven rebound, five assist and four steal stat line.
  • Sophomore Tyler Collins poured in 17 points while sophomore Latrice Perkins recorded 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals.
  • Senior Baileigh Larson played a career-high 26 minutes en route to seven points and six rebounds while also adding two blocks.
  • CSU committed 19 turnovers, compared to CofC's 20.
  • The College registered 14 steals while CSU only recorded 10.
  • The Cougars outrebounded the Bucs 40-31.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSU opened up the game on a 5-0 run, but the Cougars answered back with a 11-0 run of their own to make the score 11-5 through the first three minutes of the first.
  • With the score tied up at 12-12, a Ford triple, an Arynn Eady steal, a Perkins layup and a Madison Taylor three, the Cougars went up 20-12 with under two minutes to play in the first.
  • CofC led CSU 29-22 at the 6:53 mark of the second quarter before the Bucs went on an 11-0 run to take the lead back with 2:29 left to play in the half.
  • The College went on an 8-0 run over a 1:34 timespan to go up 54-44 with 4:38 left in the third quarter.
  • The Cougars took their largest lead of the night (18) at the 2:46 mark of the fourth quarter.
  • The Bucs cut the Cougar lead to eight late in the fourth, but the Cougars knocked down some free throws and ultimately won by nine.

The College will return to action on Monday, Dec. 30 to face off against Western Carolina for the final non-conference matchup of the season at 7 p.m. at TD Arena.
