Cougars Take Down Bethune-Cookman, 6-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.  – The College of Charleston men's tennis team kicked off a three-game weekend with a convincing 6-1 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Friday morning to move to 1-1 on the young season.

Doubles action opened the match with newcomers Benjamin Cawston and Robby Krick teaming up on court two for a 6-3 victory. With Easton Thomas and Augusto Bonorino winning by forfeit in #3 doubles, Benedikt Henning and Johnny Wang on court one finished early with the senior-freshman duo leading 4-3 after Cawston and Krick clinched the doubles point with their victory.

Singles action followed with Easton Thomas (6-4, 6-2) in flight two, Wang (6-3, 6-4) in fight four and Cawston (6-4, 6-3) in flight three all winning in straight sets – Cawston and Wang picking up their first singles victories as Cougars.

Henning dropped the opening set in flight one to Victor Bravo before a 6-1 victory in set two leveled the match, the senior winning through his opponents retiring after leading 4-1 in the deciding set.

Andre Limon picked up an opening set victory in flight five (6-2), dropping the third and second sets in tiebreaker fashion with the Wildcats picking up their lone point; Krick winning by forfeit in flight six as the Cougars took the dominant 6-1 victory.

Charleston continues the road matches with a Saturday morning matchup at Georgia Southwestern State in Americus, Ga., tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.

Quotable – Head Coach Jay Bruner
"The team competed well today, keeping their jobs simple... There were a lot of first time wins for the boys in singles and doubles with so many young pieces to our team... We had good composure from the upperclassmen and great fight from the young guys, this is a good start."
