Cougars Fall To Conference Leaders James Madison On The Road

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team fell 76-35 on the road to Colonial Athletic Association leaders James Madison on Friday afternoon.

Charleston (7-16, 3-9 CAA) held their own through the opening quarter, Madison Taylor opening the scoring for the Cougars with a three, Deja Ford stepping into a jumper to give CofC an early 5-2 lead.

The Dukes (19-4, 11-1 CAA) responded with a 7-0 run to re-take the lead with Arynn Eady finishing in the paint and Ericka Broughton grabbing a rebound and put-back to keep Charleston close.

A quick 4-0 burst by the hosts in the second pushed their lead to double-digits, Charleston never getting closer than 10 points the remainder of the way.

The Cougars defense did disrupt the Dukes, ranked No. 10 in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Poll, forcing three shot-clock violations through three quarters with Taylor and Deja Ford knocking down trey's coming out of half-time to force a JMU timeout.

A series of offensive bursts by the hosts through the third and fourth, a 9-0 run and a 12-0 run, iced the game with Charleston moving to 7-16 in the 76-35 loss, 3-9 in CAA play.

The Cougars close out the weekend with a Sunday matchup against Towson in Towson, Md. Tip is set for 2 p.m. with the game broadcast live through TowsonTigers.com.
