CHARLESTON, S.C. – Despite three student-athletes hitting double-figures, the College of Charleston women's basketball team fell 72-60 to the Delaware Blue Hens on Friday evening in a Colonial Athletic Association play.
Delaware started hot, jumping into a eight point lead before Charleston closed out the first on a 7-0 burst.
Ericka Broughton grabbed the first of her career high matching 12 points with a layup,
Darien Huff knocking down her first three of the game in the final minutes.
Delaware started the second on their own offensive run, a 16-2 stretch over a five minute period giving the Blue Hens a double-digit lead before Broughton stopped the slide with a rebound and layup.
The teams went back and forth through the final minutes of the first half,
Deja Ford using her own 5-0 burst in the third to bring Charleston back within ten by following up her first three of the game with a transition layup.
Broughton matched her career high midway through the third with a jumper, the redshirt freshman effective from the floor with a 6-9 shooting performance.
Latrice Perkins grabbed a key bucket as the third wound down, a fast break layup drawing the foul with the freshman knocking down the free throw to cut Delaware's lead to eight.
From there Charleston wouldn't get closer, the Blue Hens making key baskets down the stretch to push their lead back out to 11 behind a 6-0 run.
Baileigh Larson hit double-digits for the fourth time this season in the fourth with a rebound and layup, Charleston closing the game out by making five of six baskets but Delaware iced the game from the free throw line.
With the loss Charleston moves to 7-18 on the season, 3-11 in CAA play, and now look to a Sunday matinee against in-form Drexel. Tip is set for 1 p.m. at TD Arena with the game broadcast live on the Charleston Sports Network.
