CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team dropped a Tuesday afternoon matchup to UMASS, 4-1, at Patriots Point to move to 7-7 on the season,
Catalina Medici picking up the lone point for the Cougars on court six.
The Minutewomen raced into an early 1-0 lead with wins at number one and number three doubles,
Lily LaBiche and
Clara Errard on court two unfinished.
Anna Napadiy of UMASS took down Errard on court five in straight sets to open singles play, LaBiche facing the same fate on court three against Ruth Crawford as the visitors raced into a 3-0 lead.
Medici gave Charleston some life on court six with a 6-3, 6-2, win. The sophomore winning her fifth match of 2019 and fourth at the number six spot but it would be UMASS who clinched the match with a straight-sets win on court two.
Eva Nyikos falling 4-6, 3-6, to Jodie Lawrence-Taylor to end the match at 4-1.
Christi Woodson and
Anastasia Palaska went unfinished on courts one and four, both leading in a third set.
The Cougars now look to a Wednesday matchup against Samford with first serve slated for 2 p.m. at Patriots Point.
