
Cougars Power Past Samford In 5-2 Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. – With four singles wins and a doubles victory, the College of Charleston women's tennis team got back to winning ways with a 5-2 win over Samford on Wednesday afternoon at Patriots Point.
The Bulldogs pushed the Cougars all the way in doubles action. Samford taking a 6-2 win on court three, Christi Woodson and Anastasia Palaska going all the way in a 7-5 win on court one. Lily LaBiche and Clara Errard teamed up on court two to clinch the doubles point, the tiebreaking 7-6 win putting Charleston on top early.
In singles action the Cougars picked up four victories despite Samford leveling match on court one with Grace Jennings taking down Woodson 6-3, 6-1.
Catalina Medici made it three straight wins on court six in a straight sets 6-2, 6-1, victory to put Charleston back on top, LaBiche also winning in straight sets on court three, 6-3, 6-2.
After missing the last match through an injury, Turner Yates returned to court five with a 6-3, 6-4 win to move The College into an unassailable lead at 4-1 and move to 10-2 on the year in singles play.
Eva Nyikos went the distance on court two, dropping the first set 6-4 to Elsa Pool of Samford before bouncing back with a 6-2 second set and 6-4 third set to put Charleston on top 5-1, Palaska falling on court three in a close third set to make the final score 5-2 to the Cougars.
Charleston now take a day off before returning to the courts on Friday against George Washington, first serve is set for 1:30 p.m. at Patriots Point.
